My goal is to try to understand great songs, line-by-line. (And at least for now, this will come from the subset of great songs that already have a reputation for being great.) My secondary goal is to judge each song solely on its own merits. In practice this means I won't try to point out references and homages to previous works. Finally, I want to acknowledge that my analysis only amounts to my personal understanding, and that great songs can be open to different interpretations.
